Off-Campus Housing Guide: Best Neighborhoods Near UO

The University Neighborhood directly surrounding campus is the most popular for UO students. Streets like Agate Street and Patterson Street have high concentrations of student housing — older houses converted into multi-unit rentals, plus some newer apartment buildings. It's walkable to everything on campus.

Whiteaker is one of Eugene's most creative and eclectic neighborhoods, located just northwest of downtown. It's popular with older students, artists, and those who want a livelier neighborhood feel. Good bar and restaurant scene, especially along Blair Boulevard.

South Eugene is a quieter, more residential area south of campus. It attracts students who want more space and less density. It's bikeable to campus and has a handful of good parks and neighborhood coffee spots.

Off-Campus Student Life at UO

Eugene is a very bikeable city, and most UO students rely on bikes as their primary transportation. The city has an extensive trail network including the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path along the Willamette River. Outdoor activities — hiking, camping, skiing — are all within a short drive from campus.

The Saturday Market in downtown Eugene is a local institution, open from spring through fall. Downtown has a solid mix of independent restaurants, coffee shops, and bars along Broadway and 13th Avenue. Autzen Stadium and the surrounding sports culture bring the campus to life on game days.
