The Houston House Listings Open Right Now

Prime Location Nearby UH,TMC, TSU is a room in a house. The listing is marked rent-by-room with a private room type, priced at $850/month, in a house with 5 beds and 2.5 baths. It is furnished, on a year lease (12 months) with the timing given as 9/23/2026, and shows a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes. Ask how many of the five bedrooms are occupied and how the 2.5 baths are shared.

Two Excellent Roomies is also a room in a house. It is marked rent-by-room with a private room type, priced at $1,000/month, in a house with 2 beds and 1.5 baths. It is furnished, its lease type is listed as Flexible with the timing given as 8/1/2026, and it shows a Distance by Car of more than 15 minutes. Ask what Flexible means in practice: the shortest term the lister will accept, and whether the rent changes with the term.

4 bed single family home close to campus is a house listing at $2,450/month with 4 beds and 2 baths. It is unfurnished, not marked rent-by-room, on a year lease (12 months) with the timing given as 10/1/2026, and shows a Distance by Car of 5 to 10 minutes.

Furnished House with Rooftop is a house listing at $3,500/month with 3 beds and 3.5 baths. It is furnished, not marked rent-by-room, on a year lease (12 months) with the timing given as 10/16/2026, and shows a Distance by Car of more than 10 minutes.

The Distance by Car field is a range shown on each listing, not a measured commute for your schedule, and on the four listings here it ranges from under 5 minutes to more than 15 minutes. If you will not drive, ask the lister how current tenants get to campus and try the trip yourself at the time of day you would make it.

UH Houses for Rent in Houston: Whole House or a Room in One

UH houses for rent in Houston split into two very different deals. With a house that is not listed by the room, such as 4 bed single family home close to campus or Furnished House with Rooftop, the listed price is not marked as per-room, so ask whether it is the rent for the entire house, and expect the landlord to want one lease signed by everyone who will live there. With a room in a house, such as Prime Location Nearby UH,TMC, TSU or Two Excellent Roomies, you are renting your own private room and sharing the rest of the home.

For a whole house, the lease structure matters most. On many group leases each tenant is responsible for the full rent, not only their own share, so if a housemate stops paying, the others can be held responsible. Before you sign, agree as a group how rent and utilities will be split, who the landlord will contact, and what happens if someone needs to leave early. Ask how the security deposit is collected and returned when several people pay into it.

For a room, ask whether you get your own lease or join a shared one, how many people live in the house now, and whether new tenants can move into empty rooms during your term. Ask which spaces are shared, how cleaning is handled, and whether utilities and internet are included in the room price or split separately.

For any house, ask who handles maintenance. A house can bring responsibilities an apartment does not, like lawn care, trash pickup and minor repairs, and the lease should say whether those are yours or the landlord's. Ask how to report a repair, and ask whether the property has had any water damage and how it was fixed.

Furnishing is the other big variable. Three of the four listings here are marked furnished and one is not. The furnished field does not say which pieces are included, so ask for a list, and record the condition of everything at move-in with dated photos.

The lease timings on these four listings range from 8/1/2026 to 10/16/2026, so ask each lister whether the place is open to move into now and from what date your rent would start. Get the exact move-in and move-out dates in writing, ask whether a partial first month is prorated, and ask whether the lease renews automatically or needs notice to end.

Last, protect your money: do not send a deposit to anyone before you have seen the house in person or on a live video call and confirmed that the person you are dealing with owns or manages it.

Tips for Renting a House in Houston

  • Confirm whether the listed price is for one room or the whole house before you compare listings.

  • On a whole-house lease, check whether every tenant is responsible for the full rent and agree on the split in writing.

  • Ask who handles lawn care, trash and repairs, and how repair requests are made.

  • Get a written list of included furniture and photograph its condition on move-in day.
