Looking for WVU apartments for rent in Morgantown? This post rounds up apartment listings on our Morgantown board along with their current prices, using only what each landlord entered on the listing: the price, bedrooms and bathrooms, whether it is furnished, the lease type, the lease timing and the Distance by Car to campus. Not every apartment below can be moved into today. Some are open now, and others are subleases or leases with a later start date, so we have quoted each listing's own lease timing so you can match it to your semester.

An Overview of Apartment Listings in Morgantown

Morgantown is a college town on the Monongahela River in north-central West Virginia, and its rental market follows the academic calendar closely. That shows up clearly in our listings. Of the five apartments above, two are subleases, which means a current tenant is handing over the rest of their lease, and the lease timing on several of them is written around semesters rather than calendar years: one runs January to May 2027, another runs August 1st- July 15. Prices on these five run from $499/month to $1,175/month. Four of the five are furnished and one is unfurnished, and four are listed as under 5 minutes by car from campus while one is listed as 5 to 10 minutes. Our listings do not say whether each price covers one bedroom or the whole apartment, and none of these five is marked Rent by Room, so ask the landlord how the rent is split before you compare a 2-bedroom against a 4-bedroom. We also do not hold walk times, bus routes or ride times for any listing. The Distance by Car field is the only distance measure we have, so if you do not plan to drive, check the trip yourself on a map at the hours you would actually travel.

WVU Apartments for Rent in Morgantown: Reading the Lease Timing

When you compare WVU apartments for rent in Morgantown, the lease timing field matters as much as the price. A listing marked available now, like the 2-bedroom Apartment Available listing or the 2 bed/2 bath apartment, is one you could ask about moving into soon. A listing with a January start, like the Glenlock and Northside Hills listings, is better suited to someone planning for the spring semester. And a listing whose timing gives a month but no year, like the University park listing (August 1st- July 15), is one to confirm with the landlord before you plan around it. Read each date exactly as the landlord wrote it, and then confirm the real move-in and move-out dates in writing, because a short note in a listing field is not a lease. Pay attention to the end date as well as the start. A lease that ends in May may leave you without housing over the summer, while one that runs to July may mean paying for months you are not in town. If a listing is a sublease, ask whether the landlord or property manager has to approve the transfer, whether you will sign a new lease or take over the existing one, and who is responsible for any damage that happened before you moved in.

A sublease can be a good way to land a place mid-year, but it carries a few extra steps compared with a standard lease. Ask to see the original lease so you know the rent, the end date and any rules you are agreeing to. Ask how the security deposit works: some subleases pass the original deposit along, and others ask the incoming tenant for a new one. Ask whether utilities are in the original tenant's name and how the bills will be handled after you move in, since the listing fields we hold do not cover utilities. And get every agreement with the current tenant in writing, signed by both of you, with the landlord's approval attached if the lease requires it.

For a furnished apartment, the Furnished field is only a yes or no, and it does not tell you what furniture is in the unit. Ask for a room-by-room list and current photos, and note the condition of each item on your move-in checklist. For an unfurnished apartment, budget for a bed, a desk and kitchen basics before you compare its price against a furnished one, so you are comparing the full cost of each.

Tips for Renting an Apartment in Morgantown

  • Match each listing's lease timing to your semesters, and confirm the exact start and end dates in writing before you pay anything.

  • Ask whether the listed price is for one bedroom or the whole apartment, since none of these five is marked as rent by room.

  • For subleases, ask to see the original lease and find out whether the landlord must approve the transfer.

  • Treat the Distance by Car value as a starting point, and map the trip yourself at the times you would travel to class.
